While Sairat had a simplistic charm attached to it, Dhadak being a Dharma movie has to be grand along with Manish Malhotra ensembles, will for sure turn out to be a glossed up version of Sairat.

Dhadak Trailer Review

After rom-coms like Humpty Sharma ki Dulhania (2014) and Badrinath ki Dulhania (2017), director Shashank Khaitan is back with yet another love story, ‘Dhadak’ and this time it is bigger than his previous movies as it marks the debut of late megastar Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor in the show business alongside Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan Khatter, who is facing the camera second time. The much awaited trailer of Dhadak unveiled at a Suburban multiplex in Juhu on Monday has already been watched by many. Within few hours of it’s release, trailer generated positive response from all over, from crossing 3.1 million views on Youtube to witnessing love, wishes and appreciation pouring in from all of the film fraternity with tweets welcoming Janhvi in the industry. Undoubtedly, the trailer launch had to be a star studded affair, from Karan Johar taking charge of all the proceedings of it to all the members of Kapoor and Marwah families who could make it to cinema hall in presence including Anil Kapoor, Harshvardhan Kapoor, Boney Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Maheep Kapoor, Mohit Marwah and his wife, not to mention Ishaan’s mother-actor Neelima Azeem, came to support the two budding artists in their big endeavour.

Trailer of the film very beautifully gives overview of the plot on which movie is based i.e a young, innocent, first love of two college going students that takes an intense turn. With all the colours and rustic, vibrant charm of Rajasthan, the fresh pairing of Janhvi and Ishaan is a treat to sore eyes. Crackling chemistry of the newbies along with impressive acting skills and on-screen presence will for sure steal your heart. The duo very well mastered the Rajasthani accent and viewers could very easily make out the ease with which they delivered the dialogues. Though at one point, Jaahnvi’s dialogue shows Haryanvi with English accent but may have got unnoticed by many. Trailer also had a 5 second track of famous song Zingaat which gave a glimpse of commendable dancing skills of the two and how Janhvi did justice to dancing skills of her mother and Ishaan to his brother’s. It would be an injustice to applaud the both bollywood’s new birds for their work as their prominent work will unveil on the release date of the movie.

Janhvi couldn’t control her tears on being asked about her mother who died a few months back, with teary eyes all she could say was, “I am really missing her today”. When she was asked what tips did her parents who have been a part of the industry for over two decades gave her, she said, “The one thing I will always follow in my career is to work hard and feel every emotion before the camera. She did that when she acted out her roles. I will do it too. My father’s not given me tips, just a lot of love and support. That is enough for me.”

Janhvi was all nostalgic on mention of her mother and shared a memory of them together while discussing about her first film, she said, “I saw Sairat with mom at home and I remember telling her ‘I wish that this was my first film and I could do something like it’ Me and mom had a big discussion on how she wanted a role like this for me and then you (Karan Johar) called and it happened.”

Interestingly, Dhadak is adaptation of Marathi master-stroke ‘Sairat’ which got released in 2016. Sairat was a romantic thriller movie with Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar in lead roles, the movie won accolades worldwide and is designated as ‘Pride of Marathi Cinema’. When a movie like this is adapted, comparison is inevitable, let’s have a look at differences between the two movies which are evident till now through the trailer:

While Sairat had a simplistic charm attached to it, Dhadak being a Dharma movie has to be grand along with Manish Malhotra ensembles, will for sure turn out to be a glossed up version of Sairat.

Nagraj Manjule, the Director of Sirat, tried his best to show the real love story of a couple from a rural area. He made a conscious decision to cast a fair, thin and conventianally prety female actor in his movie. It is said that Manjule asked the female actor, Rinku Rajguru, to put on kilos to look convincing in the movie to the audience. On the other hand, numerous paparazzi pictures of Janhvi hitting the gym make it evident that 21 year old has ensured to be in a perfect shape for the role.

Before being launched the lead pair of Sairat, Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar were ordinary students and hence they pretty much played themselves. However Janhvi and Ishaan had to pick up the Rajasthani accent, though we give them 6/10 for the effort but it is needless to say that authentic way of speaking can not be beaten. Janhvi on appreciating the great work by actors of Sairat said, “Jo Rinku Rajguru ne Archie ke kirdaar ke saath kiya hai, woh mujhe nahi lagta koi doosra actor choo bhi sakta hai.” She also admitted to have given her best to look convincing as Parthavi.

Karan Johar said, “Dhadak is a ‘homage’ and if trailer is anything to go by it is poles apart from original.” Let’s wait for 20th July to watch the film and decide upon anything after that.
