The Chinese smartphone giant, Xiaomi, has launched a range of products including TV, Mi Band and Smartphone at an event in Shenzhen on Thursday. With other products being the eye catcher, Mi 8 is what we chose to discuss here today. The smartphone is company’s latest flagship smartphone with Infrared Face Recognition feature. The smartphone looks closely identical with an iPhone with iPhone X like Notch on the display and vertically aligned dual lens camera at the back. Chinese brands are known for copying any product smartly and bringing it at an affordable price to the consumers. The Mi 8 seems to be the one to reportedly be a copy of an iPhone.
The highlight features of the smartphone are it’s iPhone X like Notch, Samsung AMOLED display, dual lens camera at the back with the AI technology, 3D face recognition sensor and 3,400mAh battery. As for the price of the smartphone, the 6GB RAM+64GB inbuilt storage variant is priced CNY 2,699 (Approx. INR 28,600) whereas the 6GB RAM+128GB inbuilt storage variant would cost CNY 2,999 (Approx. INR 31,600). The third variant i.e. 6GB RAM+256GB inbuilt storage is priced CNY 3,299 (Approx. INR 34,800). There is one more variant called Mi 8 Explorer edition priced CNY 3,699 (Approx. INR 39,000) and comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB inbuilt storage capacity. The smartphones will be available in White, Gold, Light Blue and Black Color variants. Mi 8 sports a 6.21-inch Full HD+ Super Samsung AMOLED display with screen resolution of 1080×2248 pixels and pixel density of 402ppi. The display comes with aspect ratio of 18.7:9 and 83.8% screen-to-body ratio. On the optics front, the smartphone sports a vertically aligned dual lens camera module with primary and secondary camera bearing 12-megapixel sensor with 1.4micron pixel, AI portraits, AI Scene and Video Detection, dual pixel autofocus. It is also supported by an LED flash.
At the front, it sports a 20-megapixel selfie camera sensor with f/2.0 aperture, 1.8-micron pixels with AI portrait and beautification mode. The smartphone runs on company’s latest MIUI 10 based on Android 8.1 Oreo OS. It is powered by an Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, 4 cores clocked at 2.8GHz and other 4 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. As for the RAM, it features 6GB/8GB LPDDR4X RAM and comes with 64GB/128GB/256GB inbuilt storage capacity with no provision to expand the memory. It packs a powerful 3,400mAh non-removable battery.
On the connectivity front, Mi 8 features dual 4G VoLTE SIM Slots, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with dual band, Hotspot, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC and Type-C 1.0 Reversible Connector. Sensors onboard are Infrared Face Recognition sensor, rear mounted fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, proximity, barometer, digital compass and Gyroscope. It weighs 175g and measures 154.9×74.8×7.6mm.
