Mumbai: The ordeal of Mumbai local train commuters seem to have addressed by the railway ministry as the ministry gifts local train service between Goregaon and CSMT (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus) through harbour line. The inaugural service was flagged off by the Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday around 10pm. The chief minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, couldn’t attend the inaugural as he was in Delhi to convince the social activist, Anna Hazare, to break his fast with assurance to look into his demands.
The regular train service between Goregaon and CSMT through Harbour line is starting from Sunday, April 1. The train service from Harbour line used to terminate at Andheri which has now been extended to Goregaon from Andheri. The Railway ministry aims at extending the train service to Borivali in the near future. A budget of INR 55,000 Crore has been sanctioned to Mumbai Suburban which will relieve the hassle of commuting for the Mumbaikars.
There will be around 42 trains which will operate between Goregaon and CSMT while 7 trains will operate between Goregaon and Churchgate. The attendees in the inaugural event showed BJP-alliance Shiv Sena’s absence as Shiv Sena boycotted the event. The boycott of the event came after Shiv Sena MLA Sunil Prabhu was not invited for the event.
