Mumbai: The office goers via Mumbai local trains may not be able to reach their offices today due to a ‘Rail Roko’ agitation between Dadar and Matunga railway station. The protest is carried out by around 400-500 apprentices of railways who are demanding permanent jobs in railways.
The trainees allege that they have cleared all the examinations three years back but haven’t been provided a permanent job yet. On the contrary, the railway PRO, Sunil Udasi, claimed that there are no exams conducted yet and a notification will be issued by March 31 intimating about the exams. He claimed that these students come to enhance their skills. The protest began around 7am on Tuesday and is going on keeping the central line of Mumbai Railways blocked due to the movement. The railway protection personnels and government police personnels have rushed to the spot but haven’t been able to disperse the movement. The victims of the protest are again the common men who are paying for no mistakes.
Talking to TOI, a spokesperson for Central railway said, “Due to some agitation between Matunga and Dadar, rail traffic is affected between Matunga and CSMT (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus),” The western line and harbour line, however, are running smoothly without any hindrances even after the protest. Some of the reports state that some MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) workers have also reached the spot and are supporting the Rail Roko agitation. MNS Leader Sandeep Deshpande is spotted at the Rail Roko spot. Despite Police force at action, the protest isn’t dispersed and the protestors have controlled the train traffic on central railways completely. A student while talking to media expressed being hurt on head due to Police lathicharge.
Some railway officials are reported to have arrived at the spot and attempting to negotiate with the protestors. The commuters are sure going to experience a nightmare given the fact that Ola and Uber drivers are already on strike from yesterday. BEST has come in rescue and have decided to ply more buses on road today to help commuters reach their offices who are stranded due to the uninformed protest.
