Lalu’s Fate Again Distances from Luck, Convicted in 4th Fodder Scam

Former CM of Bihar, Jagannath Mishra along with Adheep Chaudhary, Ajit Kumar Verma, MC Suvarno, Benu Jha, Dhruv Bhagat, Lal Mohan Prasad are among the few who were accused, but have been now acquitted.

Mumbai: The infamous Fodder scam case, involving over ₹ 900 crores is about embezzlement of money from government treasuries in districts of the animal husbandry department in the name of cattle fodder, in undivided Bihar in the 1990s when Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Chief Minister of Bihar.

First Fodder Scam Case was for illegal withdrawal of ₹37.7 crores from Chaibasa treasury and Lalu was convicted for 5 years in 2013 for the same. On December 23rd last year, Lalu was found guilty and was convicted for 3.5 years for the 2nd fodder scam case, for illegal withdrawal of ₹89.27 lakhs from Deoghar treasury. Currently, Lalu is serving 13 years jail term in Birsa Munda Central Jail of Ranchi for all the three fodder scam cases.




On March 19, 2018, a special CBI court in Ranchi, Jharkhand declared former Bihar CM, Lalu, guilty for the 4th fodder scam case in embezzlement of ₹3.13 crores from the Dumka treasury between Dec 1995 and Jan 1996 during his tenure as CM. Along with Lalu, Ajit Kumar Verma, Arun Kumar Singh Doshi, KK Prasad, Manoranjan Prasad, Nand Kishor Prasad, OP Diwakar, RK Bageria, Raghunandan Prasad are found guilty in the 4th fodder scam.

 

Former CM of Bihar, Jagannath Mishra along with Adheep Chaudhary, Ajit Kumar Verma, MC Suvarno, Benu Jha, Dhruv Bhagat, Lal Mohan Prasad are among the few who were accused, but have been now acquitted. RJD leader, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh on court’s verdict of pronouncing Jagannath Mishra not guilty, said, “Ajab hai Narendra Modi aur Nitish ka mel, ajab hai khel, dubara se ho gaya Jagannath Mishra riha, aur Lalu Yadav ko jail. Ek aadmi ko jail, ek aadmi ko bail, ye hai Narendra Modi ka khel,”

Reportedly, on Saturday, Lalu was admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, after he complained of health issues. The fifth fodder scam involving illegal withdrawal of ₹139 crores from Doranda treasury, Ranchi is still pending and is anticipated to be heard this year itself.
