Manik Sarkar has a clean and corruption-less image in politics and in the country. He has remained as the Chief Minister of Tripura for almost 2 decades in the state. However, he lost his throne to BJP alliance this year after the BJP was given the mandate by the Tripura citizen in Tripura Assembly Election 2018. The ex-CM has the option to live in the MLA hostel but he chose to stay in a flat above his party’s office. His wife, Panchali Bhattacharya, will also live along with Sarkar in the 2 room flat above party’s office.

“The party office has the basic minimum amenities. This is nothing exceptional. Most of our leaders lead a simple life,” said Bijan Dhar, CPI(M) Secretary, Tripura. Manik Sarkar doesn’t own his own house till now as he had donated all his ancestral properties to his sister. His wife, a retired Central Government employee, owns real estate in Tripura, however, was in controversy after she allotted the property to a builder for construction. The construction is yet to be completed.

The Tripura CM-designate, Biplab Deb, opined that the ex-CM is entitled to good government accomodation and other protocol amenities. He also said that the leader of opposition will also get the Cabinet Minister status and will be entitled to the protocol perks. He hopes that Sarkar and his team can play a vital role in making their wish of a new Tripura come true.
