Jaipur: Kabul Baburao Hazare or Anna Hazare as he is popularly known, is an Indian social reformer, anti-corruption activist who led various movements to promote rural development, increase government transparency and to remove corruption from the government system. Anna Hazare comes from a village in Maharashtra, where he is known as a selfless man who has done a lot for the welfare of the people.
Anna Hazare came to Delhi and united with Arvind Kejriwal with a common intention of pulling out corruption from our political system. During his anti corruption movements, he came up with Lokpal Bill and as his movements gained momentum, the need for a compelling face to raise the movement among mass media and ordinary citizens was felt. That’s when in 2011, Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal came together, followed by Anna Hazare’s hunger strike until Jan Lokpal Bill demands were met, at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on April 5, 2011, for 100 hours. They called it 2nd fight for independence.

Even though their negotiations gained mass attention, they failed, as the government didn’t adhere to their demands. This led to another hunger strike by Anna Hazare for 300 hours. This time, their demands were met and government introduced revised version of Jan Lokpal Bill in late 2011. In 2013, it was made a law. After their success, Hazare returned to his village in Maharashtra and Kejriwal went on to join politics with party for common man i.e. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He later became 7th chief minister of Delhi.
Rift Between Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal
Since Kejriwal’s coronation as CM of Delhi, many interviews of Anna Hazare have made it quiet evident, how saddened he is by all the allegations on Arvind Kejriwal and his party. In 2016, Anna even went on to say how Delhi CM has let him down and he is not connected to him by any means and he further said that, ‘they have parted ways long back’.
