Mumbai: Like every year, this year too, on February 1, 2018 Union Budget 2018 was presented by the Finance Minister, Arun Jaitely. Expectations were high with respect to this year’s budget from various sectors. However, it has succeeded to meet some expectations while failed to meet some. According to few experts, the budget 2018 is a better one when compared to the previous year’s, while some experts believe that there is nothing new excepts few minor changes. However, the decision whether the budget 2018 is good or bad, is highly subjective and varies from person to person’s view. Was the budget 2018 beneficial? Did it disappoint any sector? are few of the common questions arising amongst people. Let’s find answers for these questions in this article.
The sectors which will be benefited by the budget 2018 include Agriculture where it is going to be a new ray of hope for farmers. This is because much emphasis will be laid upon investment in agricultural markets across India. Health Care, which has an inclusion of National Health Protection Scheme which will insure 500 million people is also in the list to impress many. Addition to these, transport companies, consumer companies, jewelers, airports, etc will be benefited.
The above mentioned benefits are like one face of the coin. There is the other face which includes how budget 2018 has disappointed some sectors. It includes Bond Investors, Financial Sector and most importantly, defence sector. The defence budget has seen just a meagre increase of 7.81% to 2.95 trillion against last year’s 2.74 trillion which is not at all significant difference. According to the military experts, the budget allocation is inadequate to modernize India’s armed forces and it will be difficult to tackle assertiveness of China and hostilities from Pakistan.
Some allegations by Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, also have come to light. He has expressed his disappointment about the budget 2018 and alleged that Centre was continuing with ‘step-motherly’ treatment to Delhi. And according to his deputy, Manish Sisodia, Centre considers the residents of Delhi as ‘Second Grade Citizens’.
This was the overview of various sectors the budget 2018 has influenced. In telling you the overview of the budget 2018, we missed something and that’s education sector. So now lies the curiosity whether budget 2018 has disappointed the students and teachers. Here are some of the highlights of what new budget 2018 has for students and teachers
