Although it’s origin lies in Thailand’s rural northeast, this dish of strips of crunchy unripe papaya bruised in a mortar and pestle with tomato, long beans, chilli, lime and fish sauce is no new to the Thais as the cuisine is widely cooked and served across the country. The sweet, salty, and spicy flavors paired with the crisp crunch of the green papaya and sticky rice is utterly luscious.
4. Massaman Curry
It is a rich and a relatively mild curry. While not being an actual Thai dish, it’s believed to be originating in Central Thailand or Southern Thailand according to different theories. Massaman curry is generally thought to refer to the muslims. The curry brings together a strong flavour of peanuts, cinnamon, a hint of nutmeg, coconut milk and a mixture of curry paste. Massaman is usually pre-made with chicken and always a few chunks of potatoes. The rich flavour of this curry is enjoyed worldwide by people.
5. Khiao Wan (Green Curry)
Khiao Wan is a kind of yummy curry originated from Central Thailand and has found a strong foothold in the country. It is widely known as Green Curry in Thailand. The name “green” curry derives from the color of the dish, which comes from green chillies. The word ‘Wan’ refers to the color of the cuisine while it means sweetness. However, to clarify here, it doesn’t taste sweet. The curry has a rich base of coconut milk along with a herbal spice mainly from green chillies. It tastes great with jasmine rice.
6. Nam Tok Mu
Nam Tok Mu is a type of Thai salad, native to the northeast region of Thailand. Nam Tok in Thai literally means waterfall.
