Mumbai: In what may be called as a final hammer on the last hope of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the ‘Office of Profit’ row, President Ram Nath Kovind approves the Election Commission’s (EC) recommendation to disqualify AAP’s 20 legislators for bearing ‘Office of Profit’. With this official nod from the apex authority of the country, 20 AAP MLA’s (Member of Legislative Assembly) will be ousted from the Delhi Assembly.
This ousting of these MLA’s will result into by-poll in Delhi in these MLA’s constituencies. After EC appealed to the president on Friday to approve the disqualification of these 20 MLA for holding the position of parliamentary secretary along with MLA, AAP leaders were hopeful for hearing a stay at the disqualification from president Kovind. However, disappointing AAP’s hope, president Kovind has concluded against the AAP party.
The AAP MLA’s who have been disqualified from their MLA thrones are, Adarsh Shastri, Sharad Kumar, Sarita Singh, Sukhvir Singh Dala, Madan Lal Khufiya, Naresh Yadav, Alka Lamba, Rajesh Gupta, Kailash Gehlot, Sanjeev Jha, Shiv Charan Goyal, Vijendra Garg, Rajesh Rishi, Praveen Kumar, Som Dutt, Anil Kumar, Avtar Singh, Nitin Tyagi, Manoj Kumar and Sanjeev Jha. AAP Chief Spokesperson, Saurabh Bhardwaj, alleged of a political conspiracy against the party and said that BJP is trying to divert the nation’s attention from it’s nation wide failure.
The dismissal of these MLA’s do not seem to affect AAP government in Delhi as the party has 66 MLA’s in the 70 seat Delhi Assembly. However, BJP has asked Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation on moral ground. A formal reaction hasn’t come from Arvind Kejriwal on this yet.
