Manushi Chhillar, as we all know was announced Miss World 2017 on November 18. She was previously crowned Femina Miss India 2017 on June 25, 2017. Chhillar is the sixth Indian woman to win Miss World, and the first after Priyanka Chopra, who won Miss World 2000. Apart from Manushi Chhillar and Priyanka Chopra, the four other women who have been the titleholders of Miss World from India were Reita Faria (1966), Aishwarya Rai (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), and Yukta Mookhey (1999) followed by Priyanka in 2000.
With Manushi Chhillar winning the title, she received the love from everyone then be it Bollywood stars, the leaders of our country and even from across the world while making all of us so proud. 1. Her Birth and Education
Chhillar was born to Jat family in Haryana. Her father, Dr. Mitra Basu Chhillar, is a scientist at the Defence Research and Development Organisation, while her mother, Dr. Neelam Chhillar, is an associate professor and department head of neurochemistry at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences. She is pursuing a medical degree at Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonipat.
2. Outdoor Sports and Other Interests
Manushi is also a trained Indian classical dancer and enjoys sketching and painting in her free time. She is a trained Kuchipudi dancer, and has been trained under legendary dancers Raja and Radha Reddy and Kaushalya Reddy. Chhillar has also attended the National School of Drama. The Haryana girl is equally passionate about outdoor sports such as paragliding, bungee jumping, snorkeling and scuba diving. She clearly is the true definition of Beauty With Brains at the age of 20.
3. Before Miss World
Chhillar already had many various titles in her kitty from her school and college days. On June 25, 2017, Chhillar took part in the Femina Miss India 2017 competition, representing the state of Haryana. She was crowned Miss Photogenic, and went on to win the competition as well, earning the right to represent India at the Miss World 2017 competition. Manushi has grown up idolizing Reita Faria, the first Asian and Indian to become Miss World. Reita Faria who was also a medical student bagged the title in 1966. Manushi sacrificed one whole year of her education to participate in the Femina Miss India 2017 competition.
4. The Answer that Won Hearts
The Final answer by Manushi was the one that made her a true pageant of the title. Manushi was asked: “Which profession deserves the highest salary and why?” She replied, “I think a mother is of highest respect. I don’t think its just about cash but love and respect she gives to someone. She is the biggest inspiration in my life. Mother should get highest respect.”
5. The Miss World
At Miss World 2017, Chhillar became a semifinalist in the Top Model, People’s Choice, and Multimedia competitions, while she was a co-winner of the Beauty with a Purpose competition. Chhillar’s Beauty with a Purpose project was Project Shakti. The goal of this campaign is to spread Menstrual Hygiene. By sources, Manushi has visited various villages in India to help women with menstrual hygiene.
Manushi was crowned Miss World by outgoing Stephanie Del Valle. The crown has come to India after almost 2 decades and India stands with it head high with the massive victory of Manushi Chhillar.
