How Dera Chief’s Adopted Daughter Honeypreet Got Arrested

Bangalore: Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the so called “godman” and the Indian Guru from Haryana is the head of the social group Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS). Even though, he has often been accused of mocking Hindu and Sikh religious figures, a conviction made by special CBI for raping two of his disciples ended him arrested and sentenced. Since his arrest, one of the culprits who is on the search is his adopted daughter Honeypreet Insan including the other 43 most-wanted people for rioting in Panchkula on August 25 after Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s sentencing.




Honeypreet Insan whose real name is Priyanka Taneja called herself as “Papa’s angel, philanthropist, director, editor and actress…Passionate to transform my Rockstar Papa’s directions into actions” was one of the most wanted women in Haryana. Honeypreet had a massive following on Facebook where her page has almost 500,000 likes.

 

Honeypreet, who is currently 36 age old is from Fatehabad near Hisar. Dera followers say that she rose to higher position in Dera sect because of her proximity to Singh. Priyanka was given her present named Honeypreet Insan after Gurmeet got her married to Vishwas Gupta, a Dera follower from Sirsa, in 1999. When Honeypreet returned to Gurmeet claimed that her in-laws were demanding dowry. Subsequently, Gurmeet adopted her as his daughter and Vishwas his son-in-law, which gave a big boost to his business. But in 2011, Gupta had dispute with his father-in-law, and approached the Punjab and Haryana HC to seek the custody of his wife from the Dera chief. He also slammed that both the Dera chief and his wife are having illegal relationship.

Since Gurmeet’s lodging in Rohtak Jail, Police were on the search for Honeypreet. She has also been convicted in connection with the violence that led to the death of 41 people. Since then she has been evading her arrest by playing hide and seek with the police. Reports from police states that she has been hiding in several places like Nepal, Delhi allegedly by violating international laws.

“Honeypreet is only complicating the situation for herself by escaping arrest. She should surrender before the police and join the investigation. The police are doing their job and will arrest her soon”, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Mohammad Akil said before her arrest.

 

Since then she has been on the run for the past 38 days and escaped arrest by changing her place. She even spent two hours with her advocate and managed to escape from right under the nose of Haryana Police which was camping in Delhi. Not only this, Honeypreet also went to Gurusar Modia, Udaipur and Barmer in Rajasthan without getting caught in the eyes of the police. She even claimed anticipatory bail which was refused by the court and asked her to surrender.

On Tuesday, October 3, 2017, Honeypreet in a TV show said that she had not been absconding but coming to terms with Singh’s conviction. She also refuted allegations that she had left the country or that Singh had sexually abused her. Soon after her TV appearance, she was arrested from the Zirakpur-patiala highway in Punjab.

 

Regarding her arrest, Panchkula police commissioner, A S Chawla said, “The SIT received a specific input that Honeypreet was travelling on that road. Since she was rounded up from an area that falls under the jurisdiction of Punjab Police, we informed them before taking her in custody.” Chawla added, “She was on the run for over 30 days. Those who helped her or provided shelter during this period will face legal action. We are also probing the role of the woman who was travelling with her.”
