Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Jitendra Awhad uploaded a video that has gone viral since Saturday morning. The video showed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s MP Kirit Somaiya playing garba in Mulund on Friday night, just hours after he visited KEM hospital to console the stampede victims of the Parel-Elphinstone FOB (Foot-Over-Bridge)
The day stampede sudden tragedy took place, many garba festival mandals across the city cancelled their programs to show respect towards the victims and their families. And at such a time, Mr Somaiya’s act of allegedly dancing the garba was seen as insensitive.
The video of Mr. Krit Somaiya playing garba was first uploaded on Friday at 11.59 pm. on his wife Dr. Medha Somaiya’s Facebook page. The video was captioned “Electronic Dandia organised by Neil Somaiya” uploaded by Neil, Mr. Somaiya’s son who is also a BJP corporator in Mulund.
Though the BJP hasn’t denied the video’s authenticity, irrespective of Shiv Sena, the Congress as well as several citizens on social media took over the MP for his insensitivity act.
After the erupted controversy, Mr. Somaiya was left red palm as he was not included in a BJP committee tasked for the discussion on issues related to railways. However, Mr. Somaiya has been vocal in the past about train commuter’s problems.
As per the sources, the press note released from Shelar’s office mentioned Goyal has suggested measures to improve railways services including installation of CCTV cameras on all trains within 15 months duration. Also extension of the 20 Central Railway and 13 Western Railway FOBs with 10 new FOBs. The committee will constantly maintain follow up with the work progress with railway officials to ensure that the assigned task is undertaken and completed within the fixed time-frame.

Further, it was found that even the Shiv Sena had to face the brunt for hosting a dinner party for the Brazil and New Zealand under-17 football teams. To which, Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar tried to justify by saying the dinner had been scheduled prior to Friday’s tragedy. He said, “It was my duty to welcome the foreign players as the first citizen. It was neither a lavish party nor an extravagant event.”
While the NCP leader Jitendra Awhad, tweeting over video said, “A heart less MP Kirit Somaiya playing and dancing on the day when Mumbai was in sad mood after 23 died in Elphinstone Bridge stampede.”

And that he was unavailable for the comment inspite of repeated attempts made to reach him by media professionals.
