Mumbai: A shocking incident of attempt to molest a girl was reported to Mumbai’s Ghatkopar police station on Wednesday night. The victim who is a resident of Khadi No. 3 of Kurla Kamani West identifies the accused as Ashfaq Mustafa Khan who also stays in the same locality. Mumbai, which is called a safe city for women and children registered another case of shame on Wednesday.
The Mumbai police received a call on their control room number around 9 o’clock in the night and within few minutes the Police Patrolling van reached the spot. The police took custody of the accused who was reportedly drunk at the time of the custody. Ajanta News was also informed about the whole situation and understanding the seriousness of the case, the team rushed to Ghatkopar Police station to learn the action plan by the Ghatkopar police officials.
The duty in-charge, Sub-Inspector, Mr. S. G. Sawant, heard the case seriously from the victim and her family members for sometime. Subsequently, the FIR was registered by the Ghatkopar Police officials the same day against the accused. Simultaneously, the police officials also assured full support to the victim and her family members to prevent any kind of harassment to the victim or to any of the family members. We spoke to the Sub-Inspector, S. G. Sawant who assured every action (as per law) against the accused. We also spoke to the Station Senior Inspector, Mr. Vyankat Patil, who said, “The accused is arrested and stringent action will be taken against the culprits and the people with similar mindset.”

First Information Report (FIR) States:
According to the victim, she and her mother, Mrs. (Censored) Devi, had gone to worship in the nearby Hanuman Temple in her residential premises around 8 pm in the night. While the victim’s mother was worshipping inside the temple, the 22 year old accused, Ashfaq Mustafa Khan, slapped the victim’s private part and started laughing on her when asked the reason.
The accused, Ashfaq Mustafa Khan, is also resident in the victim’s vicinity. The accused didn’t just physically assault the victim but also used foul language towards her and made some derogatory statements on her. Learning the situation, the victim called her mother to inform about the shameful incident. The accused, as per the FIR, physically assaulted the victim’s mother which badly hurt her mother’s hand and ran away from the spot. The accused along with couple of his unidentified friends also reached victim’s house to search for her brother, Arjun Saroj and threatened to harm him if spotted.
The victim and her mother repeatedly told Ajanta News’ team that the accused and his brother are threatening to harm them if the case is taken ahead. However, the family has decided to not let go the accused easily and that he must be punished for the shameful act. Ajanta News was also informed that many boys like Ashfaq Mustafa Khan gather in the locality and practice eve teasing, remark on girls, obstructing the pathway and abusing the residents. This is happening in the city which is famous for its stringent law and order.

The residents of the concerned area say that many of the boys who gather around their residence are history sheeters and that Ghatkopar Police must act stringently with them in order to prevent such shameful acts in future. As of now, the accused is under arrest and he has been slapped with charges under Section 354 (Assault or Criminal force to woman with Intent to Outrage her Modesty), 509 (Word, Gesture or Act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 323 (Punishment for Voluntarily Causing Hurt) & 506 (Punishment for Criminal Intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
