Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has swept the Maharashtra’s Mira Bhayander Poll 2017 with 61 seats out of the total 95 seats. Shiv Sena could secure second with only 22 seats and Congress stood third with as low as 10 seats only. While Shiv Sena and Congress could secure some seats, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) couldn’t even open the account.

The result has again showed BJP retaining it’s power in the state. BJP and Shiv Sena, despite of ruling the state in alliance, decided to contend separately in the civic poll this year. Comparing the current result with the 2012 civic poll, BJP has acquired 29 seats more than its total tally of 32 in 2012, whereas Shiv Sena had bagged 15, 7 seats lesser than its 2017 result.

The big loss is seen for NCP which had secured 26 seats in 2012 civic poll and MNS which had opened the account with only 1 seat then. Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) couldn’t secure any seat this time against its 3 seats in 2012 civic poll.

Lauding the BJP’s performance in Mira Bhayander Poll 2017, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “Congratulations to leaders and karyakartas (workers) for spectacular win! I thank people of Mira Bhayander for having faith in us! I assure speedy development”.

Crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the victory, Fadnavis also said, “The election victory is due to the wave of ‘Vishwas’ and ‘Vikas’ created by PM Narendra Modi Ji and team BJP’s efforts”. Seeing the speed at which BJP is winning all the recent Elections, Fadnavis’ statement “huge win for the BJP” seems justified.
