Bangalore: The Vice President of the Congress party, Rahul Gandhi, who went on a visit on his SUV, to the flood affected town of Banaskhantha district of Gujarat on Friday, August 4, 2017 was pelted with stones. But luckily he escaped unhurt despite severe damage caused to his car and injuries to the SPG personnel accompanying him.
Rahul Gandhi is on a visit to Gujarat where Congress have 6 MLAs. Earlier to this attack, black flags were also waved at him by BJP workers during his visit to flood affected victims. The car which he was traveling by, was, allegedly, attacked with cement bricks by BJP goons, when he was on his way from Lal Chowk to the helipad in Dhanera.
In Delhi, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “The damage done to the motorcade and security personnel injured clearly shows that it was a well organised attack on Rahul Gandhi to harm him physically.”
Gujarat BJP president Jitu Vaghani alleged that the state government had arranged a bullet proof vehicle for Gandhi but he chose to travel in a private car. Several Congress and BJP leaders expressed extreme shock on this attack.
Reacting to the attack, Rahul tweeted that black flags and stones can’t determine Congress.
Following this incident, Gujarat police arrested Jayesh Darji, secretary of Banaskhantha district youth BJP as the main accused.
According to the sources, Congress workers protested for not filing in this incident.
