Mumbai: The residents of Saidarshan Building near Shreyas Cinema at Mumbai’s Ghatkopar woke up to experience the worst nightmare of their life on Tuesday morning. The ground plus 3 storeyed Saidarshan building collapsed around 10.43 am on Tuesday morning when the Fire brigade received a call about the accident.
It was such a big mishap that 90 fire brigade personnels, 14 fire tenders and 2 rescue vans rushed to the spot. As many as 18 people were rescued and sent to the nearby Rajawadi Hospital and Shantiniketan hospital. However, six people which includes 5 females are reportedly killed in this accident. An eye witness spoke to TOI and said, “There was a loud sound and also screams of people from within the building for about 2 minutes after which we heard nothing and saw only debris lying before us”
Besides Fire tenders and NDRF team was BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta who rushed to the spot and took a learning of the incidence. BMC Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray has ordered an inquiry into the incidence and have asked Municipal Commissioner to submit the report in the next 15 days. The building is said to belong to Shiv Sena leader Sunil Shitap who had a hospital at the ground floor and was carrying out repair to reportedly build up a guest house on the ground floor.
“Property belongs to Sena’s S Shitap, he was running hospital on ground floor and was now going to run guest house. The onus lies on him,” said Congress Leader Pravind Chheda to ANI. The actual reason for the collapse of this building is still a matter of investigation and it will, hopefully come out within the next 15 days when the report on this accident will be submitted.
