Mumbai: Opposition parties which includes Congress, Communist Party of India and others, have nominated the two time union minister of India, Meira Kumar, for the President’s post. This has come just 2 days after BJP announced its Presidential candidate in the form of Bihar’s governor Mr. Ram Nath Kovind.
Many opposition leaders including Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Telangana’s Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao backed NDA’s Presidential nominee. However, West Bangal’s CM Mamata Banerjee didn’t seem quite happy with the NDA’s choice. She preferred LK Advani and Sushma Swaraj over Ram Nath Kovind.
BJP alliance Shiv Sena also joined the critics by accusing BJP of nominating Ram Nath Kovind for only vote bank. BJP had earlier commented that Opposition has become a divided house as many opposition leaders have favoured NDA’s choice for Indian President.
With Meira Kumar being nominated today, it is official that the election for President’s post would most likely be held between NDA’s nominee Ram Nath Kovind and UPA (+other opposition parties) nominee Meira Kumar.
