Even Mughals once said Jammu and Kashmir is a ‘Paradise on Earth’. With these being said, let us tell you 9 less known facts about Jammu & Kashmir


Jammu and Kashmir is a state which is surrounded by only two Indian states that is Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. It’s other borders connect with three countries i.e. Pakistan, Afghanistan and China.


Urdu is an official language of Jammu and Kashmir but use of English is permitted for official purposes.

Jammu and Kashmir is the only state in India which follows it’s own constitution because it has got a special rights and autonomy under the article 370. Jammu and Kashmir has its own Flag.


Many of us don’t know that the first Law Minister of India Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was against the article 370.


But the then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru instructed Gopalaswami Ayyangar to draft article 370 with the help of Shaikh Abdullah.


It is important to know who was Gopalaswami Ayyangar? Essentially, Gopalaswami Ayyangar was a minister but without any portfolio in the first cabinet of India and also he was the former ‘Diwan’ to Maharaja Hari Singh of J & K.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister is recognized as Prime Minister of State and Governor is recognized as Sadr-e-Riyasat.


Jammu and Kashmir is the only state in India which does not have to explain or give details about how and where they have spent the money in the state.


According to article 370, the wife or widow of the subject shall acquire the status of her husband until she resides in the state and does not leave the state for Permanent Residence (PR) outside the state.

It’s also implied that a woman who marries outside the state of J&K will loose her status of PR and the subject of the state.


But In Oct 2002, the full bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court passed the verdict that if any woman marries any man outside the state will not loose status of PR and she has all the rights including property rights.
