Ajanta News Voters' Guide

Mumbai: After Maharashtra Government announced Public Holiday on BMC Polling Day i.e. 21 Feb 2017, Mumbaikars have rolled their sleeves up to go and vote. We bring you our Voters’ Guide to make your voting experience easier and worry-free. First of all, you need to check your name in the Voters’ List issued by MCGM (Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai).

To go about it, head straight to ceo.maharashtra.gov.in and click on ‘Electoral Search Engine’ which reflects to your left hand side of the screen. Now follow the simple steps the site asks you to and you’ll be through.

You may also try another way to find your voting details by going to MCGM’s website www.mcgm.gov.in . Now find Election Department tab on the left of the page and click on it. Subsequently, click on Voters’ List Tab. It will take you to Voters’ Final List and then all you got to do is click on the Electoral Ward Number and search your Voter ID number in the list.

You may also find your name in the Electoral Roll at the Polling Booth. Each booth has a volunteer with the register to help you get details before-hand to be allowed to cast vote. You will then be asked to stand in the queue if there are other voters going through the procedure of polling.

After you get your turn, you will enter the polling station with the first Polling officer verifying your Voters’ ID and Identification proof. Your name is then called out for the other Polling Agents to mark your presence and to challenge your presence in the case of multiple presence. Once your Identity is unchallenged, you move to the Second Polling Officer who will mark your left forefinger with the indelible ink. The third Polling Officer will cross-check your identity proof and press the ballot on the control unit of voting machine. He/She will direct you to your respective Polling Compartment to cast your vote. The Polling Compartment will have an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) which will display your Electoral Ward’s Candidates’ Symbol and you need to cast your vote by pressing the button next to it followed by the beep sound. Please note that you must press the button only once and the beep sound confirms your vote being counted.
