How Bollywood Celebs are reacting to Violence against Women

Over the past few years, rape and sexual violence against women have been in focus in India but there has been no indication that anti-female violence is really decreasing. According to the latest government crime figures, 33,658 women were raped in India in 2017 - an average of 92 every day.

It’s shameful that India is facing the charges of being dangerous to live in as a woman, because of the recent series of rapes and violence against women. According to the statistics, a woman is raped in India after every 20 minutes and there are 1,33,000 pending rape cases in the Indian courts. This excludes those cases which go unreported due to the fear of shame and insult.

Last Saturday, in the small rural dry desert village, Kherli, of Rajasthan where her body was found, her tiny legs were covered with blood spots. Her brown school uniform also had blood spots and a belt locked around her neck, her body lay among the scattered toffee wrappers. Twinkle became one of the youngest recent rape victims of India.

Last week, high level of anger had surrounded India in response to the gang rape and brutal murder of a 27-year-old vet of Hyderabad. The four suspects who allegedly carried out the attack were controversially shot dead by the Hyderabad police on Friday in an encounter. The police force has been summoned by the Telangana High Court and now by the Supreme Court of India.

In India, when a woman complains about a sexual assault, she is rarely believed. But if she dies after the attack, you see the whole country screaming for the rapists’ blood, hang them till death, blah! blah!. Have we ever thought why the public come on the streets after the rape and death have taken place? We all remember the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case of 2012. Who will forget that horrendous inhuman crime that shook the whole nation. It was seven years ago, when the brutal gang rape and murder of Nirbhaya, a student on a moving bus in Delhi in 2012. That was the first time when India’s real issue of sexual violence against women first came into the intense spotlight. Thousands took to the streets to demand action in the name of Nirbhaya – meaning fearless, given by the media.

The ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ star Vivek Oberoi came forward to commend the work of encounter by the Hyderabad police. “Kudos to @TelanganaCMO and the @cyberabadpolice especially #VCSajjanar for delivering true justice swiftly and strongly! This sends a strong message to those monsters who break the law and hide behind the system. I am sure all such monsters are shaking with fear now! @cpcybd,” wrote Oberoi on his official Twitter handle.

The “courageous and genius police officer” of ‘The Wednesday’, Anupam Kher, took to Twitter to praise the work of the Hyderabad police in killing the 4 accused. “Congratulations and #JaiHo to #TelenganaPolice for shooting down the four rapists of #PriyankaReddy in an “ENCOUNTER”. चलो! अब जितने भी लोगों ने ऐसा घिनोना अपराध करने वालों के ख़िलाफ़ आवाज़ उठाई थी और उनके लिए ख़तरनाक से ख़तरनाक सज़ा चाही थी, मेरे साथ ज़ोर से बोलो – #जयहो।👏👍” tweeted Kher from his twitter handle.

The sizzling hot actress of Bollywood, Esha Gupta, also couldn’t resist from patting the back of the Telangana police for this fearless encounter. “The police did a great job, a great example has been set by this encounter, what the courts are unable to do, and they did. Justice has been delivered. Now can we please hope for the same for Nirbhaya as well? And please let’s not argue about the “human rights” for these inhuman scums,” wrote Gupta on her twitter handle.

The above messages just show that India is fed up of hearing the injustice story of several rape victims. In other words, we all are screaming “enough is enough” for the inhuman crime of rape. Let’s pledge to intensely stand against the crime of rape and violence against women. Let’s hope that our Government brings a stringent law and protocol to make every rapist pay for their crime expeditiously.
