Congress Leader asks to implement ‘Burn Me Alive’ remark of PM Modi in 2016 after Demonetization

Congress Leader and former Law Minister from Karnataka, TB Jayachandra, who, on Friday, took a jibe at a remark by PM Modi in 2016. Jayachandra recalled the statement of "burn me alive" statement by PM Modi in 2016 after demonetization hit the common men badly.

As the Lok Sabha election inches closer, the verbal battle has started to become more personal and aggressive, especially, between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress party. The latest to come against Prime Minister Narendra Modi is from a Congress Leader and former Law Minister from Karnataka, TB Jayachandra, who, on Friday, took a jibe at a remark by PM Modi in 2016. Jayachandra recalled the statement of “burn me alive” statement by PM Modi in 2016 after demonetization hit the common men badly. “Prime Minister Modi had said (during demonetization) that ‘give me 15 days or you can burn me alive’. Now the time has come to do exactly that,” Jayachandra told media, quoted ANI. He further asked PM Modi to resign if he has any self respect. “If he has any self respect, then he should quit and go,” added Jayachandra, quoted ANI.

Notably, Prime Minister Modi in 2016 after demonetization sought 50 days from Indian citizens to normalize the funds flow in the nation. He had said that the demonetization was a step to curb corruption and black money, and emotionally appealed to people to bear with him for atleast 50 days to normalise the funds flow. The prime minister had made the remark in response to opposition’s scathing attack on his decision of demonetization. “I know what kind of powers I have taken on. I know the kind of people who will be against me now. I am looting what they had accumulated over 70 years.” said Modi in the Shama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium near Panaji in Goa in 2016, quoted Hindustan Times. “They thought attack Modi and he will get scared. Burn him alive, but Modi won’t back off,” added PM Modi in his speech.

Jayachandra was taking the reference of this speech when he attacked PM Modi on his ‘burn me alive’ statement. PM Modi, however, hadn’t asked people but opposition parties and corrupts to burn him alive as he wouldn’t back off from his aim of keeping the nation corruption less. On November 8, 2016, PM Modi announced the scrapping of Rs. 500 & Rs. 1000 rupee currencies from the same midnight and introduced fresh currencies of Rs. 500 and Rs. 2000.
