The Veer Savarkar flyover which is currently barricaded for public use, is now open for motorists but an official inauguration will take place later. The 460-meter long flyover will, reportedly, have 3-lanes and the middle lane will be made in the direction which will have maximum density.

The East-West flyover of Goregaon, Veer Savarkar Flyover, which started for it’s construction in 2015, is kept barricaded from Aug 12, for an official inauguration. In the meanwhile, the citizens kept admonishing the BMC administration for keeping the flyover idle even after the construction and testing being completed. The construction of the flyover, reportedly, completed on July 31, and the ‘stability testing’ completed by August 12, the flyover was kept waiting for public use as it was to be inaugurated by the Shiv Sena youth wing chief, Aditya Thackeray.

The inauguration was to be held today but due to the sad demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee yesterday, the inauguration could not be held. “We planned to inaugurate it on Friday, but following the demise of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Yuva Sena president Aditya Thackeray said an inauguration event now will not be appropriate and instructed us to open it for public use,” said Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, Mayor of BMC.

The Veer Savarkar flyover which is currently barricaded for public use, is now open for motorists but an official inauguration will take place later. The residents had taken the matter to social media and expressed their strong disagreement for the civic body’s decision to keep the bridge closed for public use even after the construction and testing work being over. “Why do we have to wait for a politician to inaugurate. The bridge is for public to use not wait for politicians to take credit…From public money+ Time+ fuel wasted waiting for it to be ready for the public and now public waits for it to be inaugurated by a politician and we celebrated 72 Azadi diwas yesterday..How ironic!” tweeted Rajiv Paul, a TV actor.

The 460-meter long flyover will, reportedly, have 3-lanes and the middle lane will be made in the direction which will have maximum density. The inauguration date is yet not released for the public but the flyover is open for public use.
